What could be causing my 2006 ford taurus to accelrate on its own it has 110,000 miles

Your not alone. And ford does not recognize this issue? You should inspect your throttlebody pedal linkage for worn/loose/rusted 'ball'(swivel) joints. Have someone work pedal while you inspect. You may also have a cruise control linkage problem. Some have disconnected their cruise.

And remove air duct and watch butterfly to ensure it closes completely when gas pedal is released. you may need to lubricate the linkage parts/spring assembly to ensure smooth operation.
