My engine has started sporadically idling really rough and sometimes stalling when stopping or in reverse. What is the normal first course of action (spark plugs, fuel filter, timing issues?) I know several of these engines have solenoid and cam phaser problems, just hoping to avoid that due to finances. Thanks

Is the check engine light on? If so, fix the check engine light first. These trucks have COP issues, as well as spark plug issues. Try cleaning the throttle first, see if that changes anything. I know from experience at 100000Km or 60000 Miles it is recommended to change the plugs. Be sure to be careful if you are doing this yourself. These spark plugs are known to break internally inside the cylinder. You need a special extracting tool to remove the broken piece. The spark plug hole is also known to strip when removing the plugs at high mileage. Good luck.
