Truck sputter when gas low or when accelerating up hill if I donot really apply pressure to pedal. Gas valve shutoff like tank is full when I try to put gas in the tank, takes me 15-20 min. To pump gas. No check engine light is on

In tank fuel pumps are cooled and lubricated by the fuel in the tank. When you run a car very low or out of gas, it pumps a lot of air through the pump which overheats it and causes some severe wear and many times, failure when they cool off. You should never run it that low. The filling problem could be a clogged vent but that will have to be investigated further.
