I have been told that the wheel bearings in the right front wheel are shot

You have hub bearings on the front. Is it making noise? If it is, I would recommend repairs before driving that far.

how loose? usually loose means worn or the nut is not seated. and this should be accompanied by a low hum or growling noise while driving that goes away when you make a turn in the direction that relieves pressure on bearing.
