I have a 2006 Chrysler 300c almost 140,000 miles. Yesterday I heard a knocking sound inside the cabin for about 15 seconds then it quit. It has done it a few more times since then. It's not the engine cause it did once when I pulled in the garage and the engine was off.
It sounds like it's coming from behind the dasboard/under the dashboard/under steering wheel.
Any ideas what this could be?

Your certain its under the dash? Ive seen the factory cd players give the same sound. They click click click. If your certain its under the steering column, we need to narrow it down to when it happens. Does it happen if you turn the key on, but dont start the engine? When it clicks, do the turn signals illuminate in the cluster? Some security systems will cause this. Do you have an aftermarket remote start/or security system?

It happened one time when I turned the key on but not the engine. All other times have been when car is in drive. Does not affect the turn signals and I don't have an aftermarket remote start or security system.

Ok. So were narrowing it down. The clicking noise is most likely a relay. What relay it is, you will have to determine. Under your steering column should be a trim piece, you will need to remove. From there, you will need to see exactly what is making this clicking noise. Once it starts clicking, put your finger on it (should be a square black object) this relay that clicks, remember it. I can help you from this point. Once we know whats clicking, we can follow wiring schematics, and diag further.

No problem. These are little boogers to diag, so your going to need to bare with me. Once we can get the problem to keep happening, we can narrow down the circuit by having you feel for the clicking. From there though, it can be easy, or it can get very involved. Hopefully its easy. Either way, I got your back!
