A mechanic said that the parking brake doesn't hold because the calipers require replacement. Is this true?

Hello, I'm Danny.

That doesn't sound reasonable. If the rear calipers needed replacement because the parking brake isn't working then nor would you have functional rear brakes. There is a rear brake equalizer that connects the single brake cable coming from the emergency brake inside the car and splits it to both rear calipers that might be giving you the problem. I've attached picture repair steps below for your car. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
