Warning light on XLR

Are you familiar with 2006 Cadillac XLR? There is a "passenger airbag on/off" light at the bottom of the rear view mirror. My light stays on all the time while my buddy's 2006 has a light that never illuminates... One of them... Or both are wrong. What is the correct illumination for that warning indicator. (In my car it does properly reflect if somebody is seated on the passenger side... But never extinguishes)

It should always be illuminated, when there is no person in the seat over a certain weight(I think it is 50 lbs.)It should remain off. When there is a person of appropriate weight, it should illuminate the on icon. I would say the vehicle that does not illuminate at all is the malfunctioning one.
