I have a 2005 s40 2.4i with the immobilizer light coming on & the car won't start. There is no problem with this issue prior to yesterday! What can I do to clear the problem?

You will need to take it in to the dealership or a Volvo specialist with the proper equipment to scan and download software since your problem could most likely be a bad steering column lock? But it is hard to say for sure without having the Central Electronic Module fault codes at hand to get an idea as to what is going on? Only thing I can offer is with the key removed, does the steering wheel lock? If the wheel is locked, when the key is inserted does it unlock the wheel? If it does not then the column lock is faulty. To replace it software would need to be downloaded.
