The hood latch cable broke, how do I open the hood without the cable so I can repair it?

It broke on the inside of the car about a half inch from the lever

Use a pair of pliers to pull on the cable and open the hood. Then you will need to replace the cable.

The cable is up inside the sheath so it can't be reached with a pair of pliers, is there another way to do it?
