The windshield wipers are not working

Four cylinder two wheel drive manual

First of all my windshield wipers stopped working and since it does not rain much I ignored that problem. Then my radio stopped working and would only display the time. Also, my flasher/blinkers stopped working and I had to use hand signals out the window. Later as I was driving home the car just shut off. When I turned the key it would turn over but would not start. I have been using the "how to keep your Volkswagen alive manual" and I still have not figured out what is wrong. What should I do?
