I have a 2005 Toyota Tundra Double Cab 4x4. I was four wheeling and started to hear a clicking sound on the drivers side near the front wheel. Eventually I heard and felt a clunk. After cleaning the under side of truck, I noticed that the front drive shaft connecting to the front differential was hanging out of the differential housing. It looks to me as though the flange connection attached (pressed into) to the front differential came out of the differential housing and was still bolted to the drive shaft flange. Is it possible to drive the truck in two wheel drive if I take the drive shaft out and cover the differential opening that the drive shaft connects to? Does the front differential still need fluid to drive in two wheel drive? I do not want to do anymore damage, but I have to drive it to a shop.

Those are pretty big holes to fill so clean it up well with like brake clean and try duct tape to cover the hole, maybe put the tape over thehole then more around the axle housing to hold the other tape if possible. Looks like the sanp ring either came out/broke etc. If the snap ring is still on try shoving the axle back in, it will still turn but with not much torque on it may be ok to drive to shop

Can I drive my 2005 Tundra Dbl Cab 4X4 without the front CV axles installed? Are they needed to keep the wheel hub in place? My front diff. Has broken teeth in it and am worried about CV axles turning gears in front diff. And a one of the pieces causing my front end to lock up.

Thanks
