Need to replace the engine in a Mazda6 and found one from same make/model/year in salvage yard (card totaled with rear end damage only so engine is in good shaper) with 45000 miles. Should the engine be put in with a new front main seal or use the existing one?

Check the replacement engine front/rear seals for any sign of leakage if okay -install the engine

Reason I asked is a Mazda dealer did the replacement end of September and we noticed the oil leaking mid December. Took the car back to them and they say the front main seal is leaking and needs replaced. Does it seem unusual that this problem should develop so quickly after the work was done?

It sure does, might want to discuss it with the service manager-They should have checked the engine thoroughly before they install it-
