Changed my timing belt that was missing 20 teeth down by the crank and I put a new one on and timed it and it just sounds like its free spinning and back fires in the carburetor what can the problem be

I don't show a listing for a 2.4L for that year, but regardless, you most likely have an interference engine and waited too long to replace the timing belt. Do a compression test on one of the cylinders, and if you find 0 pounds, you'll need to remove the cylinder head to replace the bent valves.
