I have a rattle that sounds like its coming from the engine on my 2005 GMC envoy only when I step on the gas. There is currently 175000 miles on it. It is also becoming difficult to steer. I replace the oil every 3000 miles scince I bought it brand new. What could the problem be?

Does it make the noise if you're in park and drive? If both, it may be a bad bearing to the powersteering pump, the water pump, the tensioner or alternator.

The best way to isolate which one is to remove the belt and turn each pulley by hand. You'll feel a drag on one of the pulleys and my hear the noise as well.

Hello,

Since it only does it on exceleration it could be a timing issue(has the timing chain and components been replaced)? If not may be time, it could only be the timing chain tensioner but if your going to be in there may as well chain it all.

Another possibility is a weak oil pump. Would need to have oil pressure tested.
