If the battery is dead and cannot be charged

If the battery is dead and cannot be charged. Can I still start the car via a jumpstart from another vehicle. That would simplify getting it to the garage for a new battery. Thanks very much. I haven't tried it yet but wonder what you think.

Yes you can but you wear out the alternator the longer you delay
