what does it mean if my 2005 dodge intrepid wont change out of first gear?

Could be fluid condition and level, shifting solenoid/s, TPS/VSS sensors, TCM and the transmission itself-Do you have a check engine light?

yes, it is on now. But now it takes my car forever to change from one gear to another...when i start driving, I have to go very slow until it change every gear, but if i pull off fast, it will change from the first gear to the forth gear, then back to two and so on. What could be the problem?
