My coolant reservoir shows my coolant at min. My manual says it should be at max. I did notice a smell and some smoke on that side of the car when I got home this evening. When the engine cooled I dud check to make sure I had oil, I did. So my question is can I put coolant in and to I mix coolsnt with water? The of coolant I have is Prestone extended life.

Don't confuse "minimum" and "maximum" with "empty" and "full". The level is fine as long as it is between those two marks. It will go up when the engine is hot and down when the engine cools down.

The owner's manual will specify the right coolant to use. There have been so many new types recently with different additives that it's hard to know which one is right without consulting the owner's manual.
