I have a 2005 chevy silverado 1500 and the engine light is on.I had it checked and it says that the the gas cap is bad or loose. I replaced the cap with a new cap and I still have the engine light on and a message on the dash board that says to thighten the gas cap. The cap is new and is thight. What can the problem be, Thank you for you help.

The code doesn't tell you the gas cap is bad. It tells you that it has detected a small leak in the vapor system and the gas cap is one of the more common causes of that code but it can be many other things. You have to get the system smoke tested to determine the cause and find the leak.
