I have a 2005 Cavalier that recently died on me. Took it to the shop and they say that there is no compression on any of the cylinders, therefore I need a new motor ($3500+ est.) Or a very expensive rebuild ($1200+ just in labor). At this point I don't have the time or facilities to attempt anything myself, and its almost a wash trying to have them do the work (KBB for car ~$4000) so I am likely to scrap it and find a new car. What is that car worth with no motor but in otherwise good condition?

Regardless if lthe engine is missing or any other major thing wrong usually cars like this if you get $1000 for them you are lucky. Check into a junkyard motor as they guarantee them and are usually less than $1000 plus you would have to havesomeone put it in. They will sell you low milelage motors, like under 40-50,000 miles. That may be your best ooption as the car is fairly new. If you fix this one or get antoher just make sure to change oil and filter at regular intervals so things canbe kept an eye on. A regular interval is about every 5000 milesor 5 months. Unless you live around gravel or dirt roads, then it has to be done more often.
