Latch Replacement - Rear Door

Removal Procedure

Place the window in the full up position.
Remove the door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Side Rear Door (Standard) (See: Rear Door Panel Service and Repair Panel Replacement Trim Panel Replacement - Side Rear Door (Standard))Trim Panel Replacement - Side Rear Door (WC2, WC8) (See: Rear Door Panel Service and Repair Panel Replacement Trim Panel Replacement - Side Rear Door (WC2, WC8)).
Remove the door module. Refer to Door Control Module Replacement See: Door Module Service and Repair
Remove the water deflector. Refer to Water Deflector Replacement - Rear Door (See: Rear Door Panel Service and Repair).

Squeeze the tabs together at the center pivot of the bell crank and pull outward.

Remove the inside handle assembly (1) in the following order:
Carefully pry the front of the assembly (1) rearward.
Pull the front of the assembly (1) outward.
Slide the assembly (1) forward to remove.
Disconnect the lock and handle rods from the clip guides (2).

Through the rear access hole of the inner panel, disconnect the outside door handle rod (1) from the door latch retainer clip (2).

Carefully pry out the child security lock.

Remove the fasteners (6) from the door latch.
Remove the door latch assembly (5) from the door through the access hole of the inner panel.
Disconnect the electrical connectors (2) from the door latch.
Disconnect the inside handle rod (3) from the door latch.
Disconnect the inside lock rod (4) from the door latch.
Installation Procedure

Connect the inside lock rod (4) to the door latch.
Connect the inside handle rod (3) to the door latch.
Connect the electrical connectors (2) to the door latch.
Install the door latch assembly (5) to the door through the access hole of the inner panel.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

Install the fasteners (6) to the door latch.
Tighten the fasteners to 10 N.M (89 lb in).

Align the pin on the child security lock with the opening on the lock mechanism.
Press the child security lock inwards until it fully engages the inner panel.

Connect the outside door handle rod to the latch in the following order:
Insert the rod (1) into the retainer clip (2) on the door latch assembly.
Close the clip (2).

Important: Make sure the trim panel harness is located between both the lock and handle rods.

Position the rear of the inside handle assembly (1) into the opening of the inner panel.
Press the front of the assembly (1) inward until it fully engages the inner panel.
Connect the lock and handle rods to the clip guides (2).

Position the bell crank into the opening of the inner panel.
Press the bell crank inward until it fully engages the inner panel.
Important: Check for proper operation of the door handles and locking mechanism before installing the water deflector.

Install the water deflector. Refer to Water Deflector Replacement - Rear Door (See: Rear Door Panel Service and Repair).
Install the door module. Refer to Door Control Module Replacement See: Door Module Service and Repair
Install the door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Side Rear Door (Standard) (See: Rear Door Panel Service and Repair Panel Replacement Trim Panel Replacement - Side Rear Door (Standard))Trim Panel Replacement - Side Rear Door (WC2, WC8) (See: Rear Door Panel Service and Repair Panel Replacement Trim Panel Replacement - Side Rear Door (WC2, WC8)).
