Just had the same issue with my 2005 Lacross, found it to be the HDM module relay. Got a replacement at Auto Zone was 37.00 bucks out the door. The relay is located in you main fuse box on the right side of the engine to the right of the battery, Its the relay that has a GM number of 15016745 replaced Duralast number of 20601

Your diagnosis was spot on. Same thing was happening with my lacross. Went to dealer, got a new hdm module and installed it my self. Cost $55 now in 2014. Thx to your answer to a problem probably saved me a lot of cash. This seems to be a major problem for buick lacrosses. Should have been a recall for this. Good ole GM. THX AGAIN!

Are you refering to the bar that runs from the radiator support to the inner fender? If so, it just unbolts.
