When I turn on the engine the oil light stays on for 2 or 3 seconds then turns off. Whats the problem?

Low oil level, partially clogged pick up screen from sludge on bottom of the pan, worn mains and rod bearings or a failing oil pump.

Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge to rule out the oil pressure switch
