With steel gas tank you will need to lower down the gas tank to get access to the fuel pump.

Smells problem
2001 Volvo S60 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Had fuel pump replaced from recall and now the fuel gage will not go past 3/4 when tank is full. Is this a result of inproper installation of fuel pump?

Most likely yes. You will need to return back to the dealer so that they can recheck there work. There is an arrow on the fuel pump assembly and on the left side level sender. That arrow needs to be aligned with some marks on the fuel tank. The alignment is critical so that the level float moves up and down freely. Also they will need to check that the harness is not binding up with the float. The worse case scenario, an I have only seen it twice, after touching the left hand level sender it could have just failed just by being removed. But it is rare? So just take it back and keep me posted.

YIKES! I shot myself in the foot here. Looks like today will be the 3rd level sender that dies on me just for touching it? Will recheck it tomorrow to verify?
