I have a 2004 Subararu Impreza WRX. The "Air Bag" light vacillates between staying on for 100's or 1,000's of miles and functioning normally for 100's or 1,000's of miles. What causes this and what is the solution?
I sent this question in yesterday with a donation and have heard nothing, so decided to try the free question.

Sorry about the lack of communication, the new site might still have a bug or two in it. The first thing that shows up is having you understand why the light is on, the most likely reason is the "clock spring" in the steering wheel airbag being intermittant or having an intermittant contact. The fault should be confirmed by whoever your regular Subaru repair facility employs or with a commercialally available handheld code reader. The fact that the light is on does not indicate the system is inoperative, corporate liability being what it is, but that there is a fault and it is generally a good idea to know what is going on, rather than not.
