2004 SEAT Alhambra excessive blow by?

Noticed a fair amount of exhaust fumes coming from the oil cap(when open) but
only when the engine is warm, nothing when cold. It def looks and smells like exhaust fumes not steam.
Other than this the car starts and drives fine, no smoke from exhaust.
How serious is this?

That's pretty much normal. The PCV system is there to burn that off.

Thank you, that's put my mind at ease a little.
Though am I right in thinking that exhaust fumes don't belong there, and must be escaping past the piston rings? Whilst it might not be as serious as I thought, it's not good?

Yes, but all cars have it to some degree.
