I have a 2004 Saturn Vue and my wife noticed the display on the radio does not light during the day. You can see it fine at night. The dimmer switch is on the brightest setting. One thing I did notice was when I start up the car radio lights up fine but when you disengage the emergency brake the display goes dim.
Do you
have the same problem?

About a week ago my wife noticed it was hard to see what station or song is on. I just went outside and turned lights on started the car and released parking brake and no problems you can see what song is playing no matter what. I did dim the instrument panel and dims all the other stuff around the radio but the radio stays bright.

That's strange because the radio light has the same power output from the instrument panel fuse box as the cluster so they should dim together.

Thats what I thought. Is there something else I should look for? The thing I thought was wierd that when I disengaged the emergency brake and the radio dimmed.

Yes when I release the brake the lights turn on. I turned the car on just now and it does not matter if I released the brake or not. I did the dimmer and the radio dims now? I not going crazy. The car is in the shade as the sun is going down.

The dimmer switch goes thru the body control module to the instrument panel fuse box then to the radio light. But that output splits from the same terminal going to the dash lights. So the dash lights dimming without the radio doesn't really make sense. Let's see if its heat releated to the inside temp of the vechile.
