2004 Jeep Liberty Stop Light Heard Sound Just Got Rearended One Behind Pulled

Was are the stop light and heard a sound as if I just got rearended, but no one behind me. When I pulled in the garage and parked my jeep it smelt like something was burning. But could not find anything. Any idea what this could be?

check the transmission fluid. you'd be checking for amount, colr and to see if it smell burned.
also, is this Liberty full time four wheel drive?
