My car failed emmisions. It was hard to start. Turned out after checking battery it needed a charge then it staled on me then could only drive 5 to 10 mph check engine came on. Got it home disconected battery to check it then discovered starter not connected tightly. Fixed that and the click noise is gone upon starting. Now it wont pass emmisions. Why?

There are many things that can cause it to fail the test. Since the check engine light is on, have you had the computer scanned to determine what codes are stored? Did the tester provide you with a printout of the emissions readings indicating which was too high?

Will have to check I think it says failed due to evap, oxygen. That check engine went off after reconnecting battery and tightening the starter.

If the light is now out, see if it comes back on. If it doesn't retry the test to see if it passes. OR, let me know what the codes are so I can direct you.
