Engine emission control system

My car a honda accord sedan 2004 3.0 v6 engine is showing malfunction indicator lamp, which from the car manual indicates that the engine emission control system is bad, am in a local vilage in nigeria west africa where the repair methods is crude and the local mechanics are not able to diagonise the fault but as a computer literate I decided to check online and find out what the emission control sytems are and what do I need to replace inorder for my car to run smoothly
