Just this past weekend my engine started knocking and has only gotten worse, what is the cause?

It sounds like a card in the spokes of a bike tire and gets faster and louder with the increase of speed and RPM's, it is constant from start up to engine shut off.

Could be internal or external. In this forum, it would be almost impossible to determine the noise without hearing it.

Remove the serpentine belt and see if the noise is still there. It may be an external failure. If not, then you have an internal failure.

Bearings, pistons or something broken. Whatever it is would be major. If it is internal, I would consider a rebuilt motor.
