Bakkie cuts out when driving

My fuel gauge was not working so I changed the float in the tank but since then it is spitting and backfiring and missing and then cut out, I cleaned the carburator but it is doing the same, it idles normal and there is no problem to start it but the distributor gets very hot to touch, what can the problem be.

Re check your work at the sender unit for a bad connection. Check the external connector for being completely connected as well.
By the way, you do not have a carb, just a throttle body. Also, you do not have a distributor either. What was the unit that got hot? Where is it located and what did it look like?

What sender unit is that, everything that was disconnected at the tank were replaced where they belong. The unit that get hot is where the plug wires connect and is situated on the engine block

When you had the unit out of the tank, make sure all the connections are good and tight. The external connector is also a problem too as it tends to corrode giving erratic readings.
