2004 Mustang GT electrical problem

Car is operating normally. Suddenly the altmeter needle goes to off scale discharge. The engine starts misfiring and shuts off. Starter will not rotate engine.
Jumper wires attached engines fires up & volt meter
indicates slight charge. Car performs normal.
Hand held volt meter shows battery 12.8 to 13 volts.
Everthing is fine for a few days then all events occure
again.

You will have to check to see if you have a bare wire someplace. It sounds like a serious short in the wiring system. Check your positive leads going to your starter or relay. It also should be charging more than 12.8 or 13 volts. It should be at 13.5 or even14.
