Hole in EGR valve

Started with chugging in wet weather, diagnosed as cylinder 4 & 5 misfires, I replaced spark plugs.
Now, low power when pushing gas pedal, also a 'hissing' noise when pushing gas pedal as if air is escaping from somewhere. Then, my EGR valve blew a hole in the side of it, I am assuming because of some pressure issues.
What is causing the low power and hissing noise, and what would cause the EGR valve to literally 'pop' like that? One mechanic suggested a clogged converter, which makes sense. If so, would it be the rear or front converters?
Thank you.

The only way to tell if its coming from the converters is to have an exhaust backpressure tests

Yes, I having that done. Obviously, if it is in the front, it is going to cost much more correct?

The misfiring will send unburned fuel into the Catalytic Converter thereby clogging it. The back pressure will blow a hole in the EGR. This is a common problem with Escapes. Don't drive it when misfiring and get the problem fixed. Cats have a warranty of 8yrs or 80,000 miles.
