A few days ago my 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo SS started having difficulty shifting, only in the higher gears. If I let off the gas and hit it again, it would correct itself. Then it started in the lower gears, until I couldn't get over 30 mph to take it to the shop. They told me there was glass and metal in the transmission filter. How could this happen? They suggest I rebuild the tranny. It sounds a little suspect, am I getting ripped off?

Do you have a check engine light?

Check the transmission fluid condition and level if okay bring it in and have it pressure tested to find out what's going on.

Check Engine never came on, checked the fluid and it was fine. Already took it in and that's what they told me. I just don't understand how glass and metal get into a transmission filter.
