Wierd sound from engine

Have an 04 malibu classic with 2.2 engine. Its making an exhaust like sound in the engine but no hole in exhaust or exhaust manifold. The sound cuts in and out, what could this be?

Look at the egr valve and pipe, that is assuming it is an exhaust leak.
