how do I fix a latch on the hood that won't stay latched?

It seems that the center piece that the hood bar goes down into isn't
moving when you move the hood release lever. It only moves when you press
with your hands on the top of the spring and push it in to the left. Is this a cable being stretched problem or is it something else to look for?

Inspect if the cable is stretched and also for a missing/broken spring and latch alignment

us a screwdriver and make sure the latch isnt closed.have some1 pull the handle and try to pry it open.if its open use the driver to close the latch will it lock?pull the handle and use the driver to open the latch?when u pull the handle you should see the cable move.
