Nine times out of ten it will be a leaky fuel injector lift the hood and use a flashlight to see what's going on.

1. Fuel May Leak from the Fuel Filler Hose
The fuel filler hose may crack and result in fuel leaking while filling the gas tank.
A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can cause a fire.
Dealers will replace the fuel filler hose. The recall began on March 13, 2006. Nissan recall number is R0505.

2. Remove the back seat (lower part), then see if the smell is coming from there. If so, repair the the o-ring gasket seat (or replace the gasoline tank), and replace the O-ring that seals the tank cover. Be very careful when screwing on the cap (do not cross threads as this is easily done).
