I am looking for a used car. I saw this 2003 mitsubishi lancer with 130,000 mileage for $2,500? The guy has car fax, and paperwork with all the mods and things he fixed. Is it a good idea to buy this? Is the engine going to be a problem?

If the vehicle had been maintained well, there should be no problem with the engine. Lift the bonnet and check for oil leaks etc, give the vehicle a run to test if it is good before deciding.
