Hi. Management light came on. Engine tick over no power. Turn offf and on good for seconds then happens again. RAC came told egr valve. Took of power supply and blanked pipe. All ok for day or so and did same. Took of valve cleaned back with power and pipe connected. All good day or so same again. Bought blanking kit and told try with valve of and pipe blocked. Half a mile. Power loss so put valve back on with blanking gaskets fitted. Connected power and pipe still doing same. Only happens when gets hot. RAC again today and laptop saying airflow valve sensor which was told the one that which gives power to the top cooler and when disconnect it turns it off. He reset the faults and says that may help as car does not no what bits sorted if that makes sense. Will replace switch that like elec fitting one end and screws into the housing and that part is a 17mm brass fitting. Also it showed a fault with the air boost switch which is connected to the right of the same housing if U looking at the engine straight on but he said don't change that til done the first sensor as that would prob make switch show faulty. Very long winded sorry but the cooler comes on even when cold and not when hot til management light comes on. Leave with it running but not engine running. Cools down and then ok for a bit. Does all this sound like what making probs. Also told to connect inlet and outlet by a pipe and take off inter cooler. Thanks for time

Hi Rac found following. 16 air temp sensor. 12 boost pressure sensor. 18 Ne sensor. 49 over boost. 51 egr position sensor. Have since taken of valve and cooler, blanked off with gaskets. Joined inlet and outlet hose as one and blocked pipe that went to egr. All good again til warm. At one point I took of piece that blocked pipe to egr and went ok all way home. Beyond me ha ha. Have noticed that the rad on top of engine got mind of is own and Rac man said change the piece that screws and power connects to and could be that as running when engine cool and not cutting in when should and if that the faulty bit it would trigger rest of faults showing.? Thanks for helping by the way. So blowing my mind.

Hi I will arrange to sort the codes asap. One bit I need to get is a sensor that powers the cooling fan on top of engine. I have attatched a picture and if possible could you let me no the name of the part so can order on line or phone and get it sent to me as with work during week don't get a chance to go to dealer or parts shop as all shops few miles away and shut before get over to them. I think it is the Air Temp Sensor. Looking at the picture at the top is a big black pipe that is attatched to an aluminium housing behind where egr was situated. To the front of the housing is a 17mm brass nut with the electric feed attatched to the front of it. As my fan seems to turn on and off when it feels like it and showed on Rac laptop been advised by him to start there as obviously faulty as was running at a cool temp when should have been off and at times with ignition on but not running when engine hot it will come on and run for ages. When it running and cooling it runs sweet no loss of power etc. Thanks again for all your help been a great site to have found. Richard.

Images must be in certain format to be able to upload. Jpg is the format I normally use.

IAT is on the air hose and do not affect the fan operations. Only the Engine Coolant Temperature or fan switch does.

Did you check the coolant level? Low coolant level would cause erratic fan operations as wel and so do a faulty fan relay.

Hi yeah coolant all good. When I said fan meant the rad that sits on top of engine and is seated in the bonnet vent when shut. Two big pipes either end at opposite sides. One pipe goes to the Ali housing and a switch and brass nut on that. Will. Try load pic again later if helps. Cheers, Pooch.

That the thing lol sorry. Yeah the switch/sensor to that came up on Rac laptop and was operating it when should be off. Not cutting in when gets to 94 degrees I think he said. That when engine dies. Stop and start or leave and then decides to work. Then runs ok as long as stays on. Went to Euro parts on sat. Two items on their list of what they do were out of stock. No pic of it on web page so wanted to make sure had right name of it as told it air flow switch or could be sensor. Mind blowing for me at mo. Petrol no probs. First diesel motor. On their page they say it between  33 and  38 if that sounds right pending which one it is. Confused. Com. Sorry U must be thinking what have I got here ha ha. U a star for all your help chap. Cheers Pooch.

Information for diesel is lacking in our database so I am afraid I can't help you much.

The problem should be related to the Code 16, Air Temp Sensor.

You been a great help with what given me thanks. I at least got the basics to work on and will try the air temp sensor first. RAC seem to think sort that and if lucky it will stop other bits showing up as all linked and has knock on effect. Can only but try but once again many many thanks. Had a Proton Satria gti before. All kitted up looked the bees. Too old for now though. Had probs once could not sort. Garage put on computer, was only breather pipe smallest of holes. Â 120 for the privaledge so try where loss to sort myself now. Excellent service sir thank U. Pooch.
