2003 Mercury Mountaineer Transmission

I have a mountaineer that has a slight drag in transmission, today the check transmission notice appeared and the O/D light on dash began to flash. Any ideas?

Have a trans guy scan it it may have burnt up the o/d clutch pak

It cold be a while just no overdrive. If fluid is dark brown or black then it's not going to be very long anddon't change fluid at this point it will go quicker.
