I had to jump my battery right after I parked it. It was good than for about an hour and than it wouldn't start again. When I would try to start the car, the lights would start flashing. I replaced the battery but I am starting to think its the starter. Maybe?

Hi, I'm replacing the starter in my car, and have removed all the wires, and both bolts. The starter still won't budge.

OEM dealer part starter motor

OHC $166
OHV $179
1 hours labor @ shop hourly rate (usually around $70 p/h)

you could probably get the parts cheaper at an autoparts store?

Hope this helps. Merry xmas

How long should it take for a Ford dealers service department to replace a starter motor? I was charged $300.00 or almost 3 hours of work.

Thanks

That sounds about right. I used to provide my students with a page of business taxes, government regulations that we voted for, insurances, and all the other expenses including all the freebies they give away. After looking at that double column, tiny font, full-page list, it is really hard to figure out how they can manage to stay in business when charging only $100.00 per hour. Other businesses face the same handicaps placed on them by various government agencies, but not nearly to the extent the automotive industry has to deal with. You and I pay for it in the long run.

I can still remember, when working at a very nice family-owned Chrysler dealership in the '90s, we were charging just under $60.00 per hour, and we were amazed to hear the local Goodyear store was charging $75.00 per hour. They were the highest in the city. Today most shops are charging around $100.00 to $110.0 per hour, but that varies a lot in different parts of the country.

The first time I had this problem, the car became increasingly harder to start. Eventually was able to jumpstart it, but that eventually failed. Removed the start and it was burned up. Replaced the starter and the battery. Three months later, same thing happened. Can't jumpstart the car. I am getting ready to replace the starte and I am pretty sure it will be burned up. What's going on?
