2003 Ford Taurus starting problems

2003 FORD TAURUS would not start in moderately warm weather. After sitting for 3 hours, it started okay but service engine light came on. Drove to mechanic (literally 40 seconds down the road). Turned car off at garage and it would not start again after trying. Any ideas what the problem could be? Car has 99,000 miles on it. Thx!

Check engine light on.

Have the computer scanned for code/s you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on. This is your starting point of diagnosis, finding out what is going on.

Okay, diagnosis was vacuum hose from code. Eventually need a fuel pump. Sound right to you?

Fuel pump to confirm it, it needs fuel pressure testing with a gauge to rule it out. Do not be throwing parts at it. Get it troubleshoot to determine the caused and the defective item/component.
