Are tailgates interchangeable

Will the liftgate from a 1999 Ford Explorer fit on a 2003 Ford Explorer Sport XLT? I know it does not have a wiper, but will the rest work If possible, I would like a range of years that would fit the Sport. I read someone's opinion that stated anything 1998-2001 Explorer and 2001-2003 Sport would fit the liftgate. My fiancee hit a tree and we are looking for a good used one online. My liftgate has a wiper. Not necessary, but what years/models will have that?

We try to help everyone we can, the advice to check with the junkyard was not a lost lead. They are in the business of selling used parts and would know which parts are interchangeable.

Give your local salvage yard a call and see if they are able to find a good tailgate for your Explorer.
