I recently had a friend put a 2008 ford mustang 4.0 engine block in my 2003 ford explorer. After a computer reflash, a motor vac, 02 sensors, tps, and engine coolant sensor, thermostat, and manifold smoked for vacuum leaks, I have a loss of acceleration and a vibration in the floor and gas pedal. I guess my question is are there any concerns that the mustang block is the cause of this? Example: my trucks 8th letter in the vin is K and I don't know what the mustangs was.

Ford only lists a 4.6L and 3.8L V6 for 2003 are you sure it is a 4.0 out of mustang? If you are experiencing a vibration it may be because of a balance issue as the explorer of your year has a balance shaft in it and the one you got doesn't as well as being the wrong size the flywheel would be wrong for it as well.

My stock engine is a 4.0 sohc. A rocker arm went and I was talked into putting a 2008 mustang block in and only the block. If figured it was truely the mustang block because it only run with the mustang spark plugs.

If the block was for a manual transmission then it has the jack shaft and balance shaft like yours but if it was for an automatic it doesn't have that.

No iti s another engine block altogether. Or you'll just have to put up with it. Or see if the person that installed it will correct the situation. YOu can always go to court as well if no success

Thank you hmac! The engine was installed a year and a half ago. I just called him and he seems confused but said he will look into it. Lol he is a friend of mine who sells cars so I don't know how this will turn out.

Hey no problem I went directly to the ford site we have for mechanics and looked this up and that is what it says the balance and jack shaft are only in the manual transmission mustangs. Hope you get it fixed right.
