Help please

My 2003 dodge neon the battery died and I jumped it and then my rpm gauge and my mph gauge went all the way around and stade there what could be the problem. And when the car is started I unhooked the positive cable on the battery it dies plzzz help

Firstly you should never unhook a car battery when running, when re attached this can induce a voltage spike that can destroy delicate electronic equipment such as the main ECU (computer) with that said I feel that the alternator is faulty, get the battery fully charged and start the car and get the alt output voltage tested, start here.
