I have a 2003 Dodge Intrepid that will stall (engine shuts off) for no apparent reason. The car will begin to idle roughly while sitting a stop sign or red light and shuts off. Some times it will start right back up & go. Other times you have to crank it 3 or 4 times before it stops killing when you put it in gear. My mechanic says it is a fuel intake gasket. Does that sound right? He also wants to charge $350 to do the work. I looked up the part & it's $3?

Did your mechanic check for fuel pressure and change the fuel filter?
