I'm trying to replace the evap purge solenoid on my chrysler sebring lxi 3.0 v6, I think I have located it just before the gas tank but it doesn't resemble the part I bought at NAPA and the haynes manual is no help.

I got the picture from alldata its a subscription online repair manual we use on here to answer questions. So did you find it on your car?Does the part you have look like the picture I posted? It doesn't give details about how to change it on what I have. There usually bolted in place. Some have a retaining tab that you move aside and slide it out of place.

On my car the part yer talking about is just "in the block" I guess would be the best way to describe it, the part I got looks like its for an earlier model sedan or for a 2.7. The haynes manual says that on 2001 and newer coupes I have to drop the gas tank.

I will check it out in the morning a little further but I do believe that what your telling me I need to replace is a dealer only item and maybe thats why I got what I got from napa maybe thats all they could find to fit the description of the problem.

So the part you got is different then the one you thought you were going to replace?Lets do this since you don't know where the part your going to replace is that means you don't know if its bad. So lets hold off on parts get the code numbers do some checking and go from there. How does that sound?

From what you sent me and what i've had to research and from the service departments i've talked to from numerous chrysler dealerships and mitsubishi dealerships we have located the correct part and it seems to be rather common place for this problem to occur I feel confident in changing out the part. I have not ordered it yet and my friend who borrowed my obd II has become hard to get ahold of, he works some odd hours, but I won't do anything until I can provide you the codes, its better to be safe than sorry, right? But until I can get that obd back the whole projects at a stand still. In the next couple of days I should have it back and I will send you the codes. Thanks.

Yeah it seems to rather common I mean I started having this code and check engine light come on about 6 months after I bought the car and I bought it when it was 2 years old my mechanic I believe just got arround it by clearing the code as he drove the car on inspections, i'm just tired of seeing the light on so I want to fix it and I like to tinker with cars so here I am, theres no recall on the car, i've checked. I should have the codes for ya tomorrow.

So when you got the code cleared did it come back right away?If the canister purge solenoid is bad causing that code then it would be stuck closed. Make sure you have a good vacuum coming from the engine to the solenoid with the car idling.
