There is a star wheel adjuster on the parking brake show for adjusting the shoe clearance but the cable itself is self adjusting. It is very common for the brake shoe itself to wear out and it digs out the braking surface inside the rotor so I suggest taking it apart for inspection.

Not self adjusting like older drum brakes back up while in reverse and hit brakes each time it adjusts tightness?

No, the star wheel is manual. It the cable mechanism auto tensions
