Engine taping

I have a 2003 Chev S10 6cyl with 69000 miles. When I crank it up cold it has a taping noise then after it runs a while to clears up and runs fine. It has just started this and at first it would clear right up but the last time it took a much longer time and seem to be louder.

Symptoms indicates the noise should be from the hydraulic lash adjusters (valve lifters). One or more could be failing resulting in insufficient pressure to hold them at cold start.

When was the engine oil last replaced?
