I have a 2003 chevy cavailer, and I was driving to take a friend home and on the way home, I was in the turn around lane, when the rpm to about 2 like it was about to lunge forward, if I would have not had my foot on the break harder, it would of speed up and went. The 2nd time the rpm was when I was in the bank, putting money in the atm. I had the car in park, and the rpm raced high again till about 2 then came back down. What could be the problem?

I'd clean the throttle-body and check the iac/idle air control. Check for any applicable trouble codes. Some of the national brand autostores used to check codes for free.

Thanks. Another question, its about the same car. I fill 2003 Chevy Cavalier with gas, after driving from point A to point B, once I put the car in park, the gas gage needle will move down then up, then back down, and it will go down about an inch or 2 further than where it's suppose to be.

The fuel level sending unit sends a signal to the pcm, the pcm sends signal to instrument cluster. I did see a tsb for erratic fuel gage reading, it said to replace the sending unit in the gas tank.

There are codes for the sending unit circuits, you might have the codes checked.
